Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, Happy birthday, my dearest Abigail, Happy birthday to you…

its sad when you hit double digits, not quite a woman, not quite a child. Wanting to be older, but longing to be held close like you were when you were 2… today my baby hits a decade of existence… in this I feel strangely content to know that the child she is, is only a window to the woman she will become… the challenge is dressing the window so that its beautiful in design, humble yet confident, wise, yet teachable.

There is much to be molded from this lump of clay God has given to us…. we’re halfway there and have much work to do…. Happy birthday babygirl……know that you are loved beyond measure…

My Daughter Grows Updaddy-and-daughter-sept-2007

Life is fleeting, years rush past…
and little girls grow up so fast!
Let me take time out to beabbie-6mths
glad that mine is still here with me.dsc01741
And though I’m busy through the day,
let me take time out to play…
Let me take time out to smile,
to linger with her for a while…
To invite her under the table for tea
and dress up silly as can be.
Let me take time out to sing
and dance and skip
and twirl and swing…
To splash in puddles when it rains
and make her fancy daisy chains.
Let me take time out to hear
about the things that she holds dear.
Let me tuck her in at night,
hear her prayers, turn off the light.
And for one more moment let me pray
and thank God that we shared this day!

no… not the kids..well, yes, they are growing…Josh is closing in on me.. BUT that isn’t want this post is about.

We had a wonderful weekend. I am awestruck by the love of the people in our church.  One of the families that has been visiting off and on has fallen in to some very tough times.  Our people have rallied around them, in a way I can only say is Christ like.  Taking them back and forth to work, keeping her children until she gets off (at 1am might I add) helping out with meals and so on.  Saturday we all marched over and threw in inprompt-to birthday party for the oldest son, Juan, who was turning 17.  We had pizza and cake and just enjoyed the day.    I can’t thank God enough for the heart of his people and the love they are showing for one another, we are truly a family.

Sunday we had our highest attendance yet at the church – since we have been there. We had 28 in Sunday School (adults, the kids were off in the other classes) and 45 in morning service (46 if you count the baby… ha ha)  It was a great time of worship, and God moved.  Sunday night we had 27.  Again, a wonderful night.

God is moving and blessing in this work, we have tripled our size this year.  God is indeed working.  We are not stopping here, as we strive towards the mark, and his calling, we pray earnestly to see more hispanics come to the knowledge of Christ.

This weekend, the 22nd, we are having our Thanksgiving meal – as of Sunday night, we were told we can expect 60 or more.  We are planning for 75.  We cannot express thanks enough to God for what He is doing, we know it is none of us, and all of Him.

It’s exciting and I don’t think Tony has stopped smiling all weekend!!!

If you are in the area on Saturday, we’d love to have you stop in!!! 2134 Dup Gap Rd!!!

surprise, surprise, surprise… October 28, 2008

this weekend was great, fantastic and wonderful.  my sweet husband managed to finally surprise me… something that doesn’t happen very often… and let me tell you he was very proud…

Friday was my birthday… something I was very much hoping he would just let roll past with not too much pomp and circumstance… but alas, he had other plans… I truly had a great day.  Started off with a happy birthday wake up from Tony and the kids.  At work, I was greeted by smiling faces– and a cake!! This was not just any cake, but something called a Choco-flan… WOW. was it ever yummy, flan on top of a delicious chocolate cake… My companeros also surprised me with a gift card to my favorite place to splurge on overpriced coffee (also the only decent coffee house in town)… Starbucks (let me tell you add another shot of espresso to whatever you order and you got yourself a great cup of coffee…).. day continued as a few friends took me out to lunch, and then into the evening.  I received so many emails and texts, phone calls and cards, I can’t tell you all thank you enough… my face book wall (which i unfortunately can’t access from work) was written on all day long, I feel all mushy inside…  That night, Tony rushed us home, scooped up the kids, and then deposited them with our pastor and his wife for the evening — we can’t thank them enough for stepping in and helping out..

Tony arranged for some close friends to meet, for an intimate adult dinner… something that doesn’t happen often.. but was lovely.  We had a great time, I got sang to, much to my chigrin… and just enjoyed ourselves.

It was a truly great day….. actually a great weekend.  Tony managed to slip a card onto the bed the next day… and on Sunday was a simply wonderful day.    I am blessed to be so loved.

So to everyone that participate in my birthday celebration thank you, thank you for the gifts, cards and thoughts.  God has been so good to me, exceedingly abundantly above all that I could ask or think…

one final thought… I got a little crazy on Saturday – maybe its the whole getting older thing, who knows, but I colored my hair… this is what a $4 bottle of Clairol can do for you!!! they’ve been calling me “red” at work now… although this isn’t a great pic – it’s actually redder than this… i thought i’d let you see what i did…
