HARVEST TIME!!!! October 22, 2007

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday- clear skies and a balmy 78 degrees…as we took a well-needed break this weekend, and went up to Cleveland, TN to the Apple Festival. It wasn’t a huge event, but it we had a great time. There was a petting zoo for the kids, complete with a llama, goat and donkey – and hermit crabs, that one I didn’t quite understand!! ha ha There were inflatables for the kids to bounce on, crawl through and jump off of…pony rides and a “way-cool” play house that Abbie just “has to have”…..

We feasted on a foot long corn dog (m-m-good) and devoured a funnel cake…Abbie had Italian Ice, which was a perfect treat for the warm weather we have… There were vendors peddling their goods, live music, clogging and fresh apples on every corner… All in all, it was a nice afternoon to spend together.

There was also a display of antique John Deer Tractors – the kids loved these…here are the future farmers of America..

Emotions running high October 8, 2007

It’s a funny – kinda sad thing that happens…one day you’re watching your little girl play with her dolls on the floor and the next there are 2 little boys standing outside your front door – asking if she’s home….. it’s something you see in the movies in a flashback, as the bride walks down the aisle, the dad is teary eyed and recalls the little girl she once was….

This, however, was the scene at my house over the weekend!!! Abbie was frolicking around with her little friend, playing dress up and dolls and the next day there appears a lop-sided smiley little boy asking if Abbie can come out to play!!! I hesitantly allowed him to hang out, interested to see how my little one would react to this intruder…she smiled up at me with big blue eyes, and ran out to play, that’s what she did..
And he stayed………..and stayed……………………..and stayed………….under very close supervision…

So that night, Abbie and I had a LLLLOOOOOOONNNNGGGG talk…about many many things, most of all, how to act if a boy comes over – no touching, no showing him your room, no tickling- she didn’t do anything wrong, mind you, but we definitely needed to discuss ground rules… so we prayed together and talked, and I said something like…….”sweetie, we’ll be having lots of talks like this, because you are growing up…” At which time she burst into tears………I mean snot flying, hyperventilating, tears flowing – TEARS…. and sobs into my shoulder……

“but…I..sob…don’t….gasp….wanna……….grow up…………………”

more tears…….

WHAT???

No, she says, I doesn’t want to grow up because as she puts it – I don’t want to leave my mama and daddy!!!!!
I told her that I will be making a mental note, because in 5 years when she hates me and living at home and is ready to move out into a tent in the backyard…

THIS WILL BE BROUGHT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if she is this emotional now, I wonder what she will be like at age 14…. perhaps I’ll be the one moving into a tent in the backyard!!!
